It has been some time since I have written a personal blog. Although I enjoy creative expression, most of my work has involved academic and scientific writing for the prior half-decade or so. As a result, I haven’t had much of an opportunity to get involved in personal writing for a while. I hope to make a real effort to contribute some less formal, more experiential ideas and experiences at this new blog from time to time.
This new blog project is a creative experiment to play with ideas, emotions, and experiences as these emerge, rather than having a pre-structured theme or topic. Instead, I hope to share some of the ideas I’ve developed here, whether driven by research, practice, or introspection, into the nature of perception and consciousness.
My main motivator to investigate human psychology stemmed from the exploration of altered states of consciousness (ASC). This stimulated my interest in pursuing a 4th year honours in Psychology back in 2010. Since then, I have written about ASC, as well as the role of technology in helping us to better understand human perception and consciousness.
As part of this blog, I hope to delve deeper into some of the major questions circulating the disciplines of psychology and philosophy at present, particularly related to:
- The nature of higher-order perception
- The hard problem of consciousness
- Transcendental and altered states
More importantly, I hope that some of the blog posts here are helpful or useful in some direct way to readers. I’m inclined to publish articles as more of a conversation rather than a monologue. Therefore, I encourage an AMA-style interaction with the posts I make here, and I’m keen to respond to comments, dialogue, and debate about some of the topics I hope to explore.
Thanks for reading!
